Today was our biggest/longest potential hike that we had no idea how far we might get. It’s hard to put into words the magnificence of the area or the crazy steepness so…
“The Kalalau Trailhead, located within Haena State Park, marks the beginning of the iconic 11-mile trail along the Na Pali Coast, renowned for its dramatic views and challenging terrain. For a shorter adventure, hikers can explore the first few miles to Hanakapiai Beach or continue to Hanakapiai Falls for a rewarding day hike. Hiking the Kalalau Trail is one of the top activities at Haena State Park, offering breathtaking views of the Na Pali Coast.” www.hawaiiactivities.com/travelguide/haena-state-park/
I/Kim knew it would be a strenuous hike and, well, with having a hard time breathing just going up stairs, I hoped to just make a few steps, maybe into the hike. I have been walking in preparation for this trip (and just overall health) so as we got going, it wasn’t so bad and my legs were good. And, well….we made it to their recommended spot, just a mere 0.5 miles, for views of the Na Poli Coastline!!! But I believe it was about 200 meters incline and was about an hour to hour and 1/2. It was so hard but only breathing-wise, my legs felt great and I thought I could have maybe gone a little longer!!! However, at the very end, I was so exhausted. But it was well worth it.

After spending the first half of the day at Haena State Park and enjoying Ke’e Beach and the Kalalau Trail, we took a shuttle to the Haena Beach Park with views of Tunnels Beach and also explored the nearby Maniniholo Dry Cave. We didn’t stay too long though before catching a shuttle back to Hanalei for a late lunch early dinner. Kim went to another Chicken in a Barrel for more of that BBQ chicken and some pulled pork fries, while Andy went to L & L Hawaiian BBQ for some tasty Orange Chicken and rice
