This morning we enjoyed some breakfast on the “lanai” before attending church at Calvary Chapel North Shore. It was a nice service with familiar songs and a good message from Revelation 22 by Pastor Steve Rex. Quote of the morning was, “There is nothing better here than what will be with God.” Very true, even in such a beautiful place like Kauai.

After church we went with our friends to brunch at a place near Hanalei Bay called Kalypso Island Bar and Grill. Kim got a Cali Burrito (steak, crunchy fries, avocado mouse, & Pico de gilo all wrapped up and delicious) and Andy got the French toast. All very tasty!

Then we went to visit Hanalei Bay and walked the pier before returning to the resort. Here are some picture of our morning fun. And 10,000 reasons to be thankful. 😉

Beautiful weather but the mountains are just foggy enough we could see the waterfalls but not properly photograph them.

We aren’t sure what is being grown at this farm, but we suspect rice fields

This afternoon, Day 3:

We decided to take a drive down towards the east coast and use our “Shaka Guide Driving Tour” and we started with the Kilauea Lighthouse (can you guess what song will come next??)

[These are all Kim’s “just okay” phone pictures, check out the album soon for Andy’s better phone pictures!)

For our bird loving friends!

We stood for a long time at the fence (keeping us and many others from climbing down to our likely deaths) just watching the powerful waves crashing into the rocks below! The lighthouse has been closed for a while (“much needed repairs”) and there is a way to drive down towards it but only Wed – Sat. It’s the Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge bird sanctuary but you can only get so close to the lighthouse, so tune in Thursday to see what we decide.

We have yet to see any whales and it’s officially not the time but I (Kim) am hopful we might!

On our way out, we stopped by the Kung Long Center, Kilauea, for some shopping browsing through $70 – $120 shirts/dresses/fancy material!! Beautiful, but not for us. 😉 Even if we are on vacation. Andy will post pictures of our “mostly” shared cream puff and “my unshared, he doesn’t like” coffee. Just okay bakery. There was a little boy behind us pointing out the cream puff that looked good to his auntie, but said it didn’t taste very good. He was just about right. Not enough fat in the cream as it had a lot of vegan / low-fat options. Just not for me, LOL.

Then as we went down towards Kapa’a to start our audio driving tour….we stopped at Anahola Beach Park…

Loved seeing all the washed up wood!!

We think the multiple round looking large rocks were part of a pier that was washed away.

We then turned off the audio tour to stop at the Coconut Marketplace in Kapa’a and I have a few things marked to either find elsewhere or go back for…I’m looking for a mug and a shirt (how cute are these!!)

After smelling some delicious BBQ, we decided to try Chicken in Barrel – very “ONO” (delicious)!!! Note, we weren’t going to do dinner out. We were very much just going to come back and have sandwiches or leftover pizza. We weren’t really that hungry. But the power of your nose overtaking your other plans senses and you just cannot help but devour all the meat!!

Chicken In A Barrel

On our way, we listened to a story about “Hole in the Mountain / King Kong face” (Kalalua Mountain) where the old movie was filmed and if you squint your eyes on the third Tuesday of the fourth month (LOL) you can see his face. This picture doesn’t do it justice to show the strange gap in the peak!

Then we took one of the many random roads towards the ocean (“makai”) and found a charming, beautiful Moloa’a Beach (sorry, you’ll have to wait and see Andy’s pictures – mine are just my feet). There was this weirdly awesome “cove?” where it looks like the high tide brought and left water and Andy said he could just sit in a kayak and watch the crazy ocean from his calm cove all day long! Our Shaka Guide was very helpful in letting us know where to park so we didn’t get stuck and unable to turn around.

Possibly our favorite beach…Kahili Beach…this was on the east side of the lighthouse with a river coming out to the ocean and just beautiful. It was a nice, quiet beach with a wooded area and we were able to see a partial sunset (minus the mountain being in the way!). Again, wait for Andy’s pictures!!

Final song for the day:
